The Grand Rapids Ballet, Michigan's sole professional classical ballet company, has flourished under the artistic direction of James Sofranko since 2018. With a troupe of 20 professional dancers, the company captivates audiences locally and internationally. Their performances are held at the Meijer-Royce Center for Dance and Peter Martin Wege Theater, collaborating frequently with the Grand Rapids Symphony.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, the Grand Rapids Ballet has a storied history of artistic excellence and community engagement. Originating as the Grand Rapids Civic Ballet in 1971, it evolved through a merger with the Summerfest School to form the Grand Rapids Ballet Company. This growth has been recognized with the ArtServe Michigan Governor’s Awards for Arts & Culture.
