The Nevada Ballet Theatre was envisioned as a professional ballet company in Las Vegas, brought to life in 1972 by Vassili Sulich. This vision was realized when Sulich, a principal dancer at the Tropicana Hotel, assembled a group of dancers from the local entertainment scene. Their performances at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre received enthusiastic support, leading to the establishment of a volunteer board and the emergence of a professional ballet company.
In 1972, Vassili Sulich's dream of a professional ballet company in Las Vegas took form with performances at the UNLV Performing Arts Center. The community's positive reception and UNLV's support led to the formation of a volunteer board, spearheaded by Nancy Houssels. Over the next 25 years, this initiative blossomed into a full-fledged professional ballet company.
