Since its inception in 1944 by Mary Day and Lisa Gardiner, The Washington Ballet has evolved into a significant force in the dance world. Initially established as The Washington School of Ballet, it became a professional company in 1976, showcasing the talents nurtured within its walls. Over the decades, TWB has achieved numerous milestones, including the premiere of Mary Day's The Nutcracker in 1961, cementing its role in shaping the artistic landscape of the DMV area.
