I always wanted to be a writer; I read voraciously and kept a journal since age 5, and participated in a creative writing summer intensive when I was 16 at Columbia University. To complement my literary aspirations, I played classical piano, taught myself guitar, had lead roles in musical theater, and even enjoyed a brief stint with the flute. Growing up in a small Texas border town, I direly longed to move to New York City and become an artist. So I did.
I earned a BA in Creative Writing from Columbia University in 2018 and an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown in 2024. My genre is poetry, and I've had the honor of studying under many great writers and poets throughout my academic career: Dorothea Lasky, Susan Bernofsky, Emily Pettit, and Joseph Fasano during undergrad, and Eleni Sikelianos, Thalia Field, John Cayley, and Tracie Morris at Brown. I am also friends with many contemporary poets. It's a small world that's all about connections.
I practice yoga pretty intensely, run as much as I can, lift weights, and sometimes do pilates. I'm also obsessed with professional tennis and love to watch tournaments and slams. In the summer, I plant flowers, and always have about 20 houseplants no matter what flat or city I'm in. For a while, I was very into learning German, and even studied in Berlin when I was 21. I also have a basset hound called Fiona, who I go on regular walks with here in London.
No pain no gain!
